Have you ever written a document that you wished someone could look over before you submitted it? Or have you grown weary working on a project and needed fresh eyes?
That’s when you reach out to me. My name is Julie, and I am a copy editor and proofreader.
Okay, you know how to use your system’s spell-checker. But many times that isn’t enough. I can be that desperately needed fresh set of eyes to make sure your words are working as you intended them to be.
I started falling in love with copy editing while I was in college. A dorm mate had a paper to turn in for one of the toughest English professors at the school. While her paper was covering the needed points, it didn’t flow well. She asked me to look it over. I took her printed document and cut it up and put it together in better order. She went back to the school computer and retyped it, handed it in, and received a solid grade on it.
My first full-time job out of college was at a technology company, and the position encompassed many of the skills of a proofreader. Every month, my manager handed me pricing quotes to update our database. The printouts were a few pages thick. But I got in my zone and finished up within a few days. My attention to detail saved the company tens of thousands of dollars.
And have you ever noticed a typo on a video? While working at a video production company, one of my tasks was to type up the title screens and credits. I never heard one comment from a client about a typo in one of the videos I helped put together.
Do you have a document that needs a little help? Send it my way.
