Julie Holzmann started falling in love with copyediting while she was in college. A dorm mate had a paper to turn in for one of the toughest English professors at the school. While the friend’s paper covered the needed points, it didn’t flow well. Julie Holzmann looked over the printed document and cut it up and put it together in better order. The friend went back to the school computer and retyped it, handed it in, and received a solid grade on it.
Julie Holzmann’s first full-time job out of college was at a technology company, and the position encompassed many of the skills of a proofreader. Every month, my manager handed me pricing quotes to update our database. The printouts were a few pages thick. But I got in my zone and finished up within a few days. Julie Holzmann’s attention to detail saved the company tens of thousands of dollars.
Have you ever noticed a typo on a video? While working at a video production company, one of Julie Holzmann’s tasks was to type up the title screens and credits. The production company never received one comment from a client about a typo in one of the videos Julie Holzmann helped put together.
